Casting Photos

Original Photos

These pictures are going to be used in the film as props. The pictures will be in frames and you will see them as the camera pans through the house.
By seeing these pictures we can see the relationships between the family and it shows us that they are a very close, loving family. Also it shows the audience that a family lives in the house when the camera is panning.

Musical Score Ideas

The first sound i found i really like because it is quite dark and mysterious and has a nice effect, even when you listen to it without a moving image behind it.

The next sound is a telephone ringing.  We can use this for when the phone rings in the house.

This could be a good idea to use instead of one of us doing a voice over.

We could use this when he is ringing his friend.

Filming Practice for Thriller Opening Sequence

Ellie and Emma decided to make a video to practice and try out the pans we may use in our opening sequence. We think that the pans will be good as they build up tension for the audience as they find out what is coming next. Also they show movement and the camera can sync with the music. Hopefully this will help us for when it comes to filming the real thing.

Shot Ideas

Close ups, over the shoulder shots, long shots, establishing shots!

Opening Sequence ideas

Kill Your Friends Opening Sequence
This is a title sequence made by University students that is similar to the ideas we have for our film. We, as a group, really like the way the titles are film as they appear to be on everyday objects. The slow pans and tracks draw us into wanting to watch the whole film and the way the flashbacks are so fast paced and quick give us snippets into the remains of the film. The way the shots and cuts just show a normal apartment after a night of partying and drinking and the after math and mess of it all.

Our Groups Ideas Inspired by this Clip:

  • Slow pans will now be used
  • New ideas for titles over everyday objects

Thriller titles text

This font is good as it is clear but has a slight quirky feel to it. It gives a little more than it should away and it makes me personally thing it looks a little childish which does not fit in with our genre.

This font is bold and stands out, it is clear and effective plus it doesn't give too much away however i do not feel like this is the right type of text for our film.
This font is effective as it immediately  indicates a city and reflects the thriller genre well . It has a suspicious, mysterious feel to it and will have a good effect on the audience.

This font is much like the one above just with out the buildings at the bottom. We have decided to choose this text  for the titles of our film as it reflects the genre of the film really well and we feel this is the best we have come across.

Costume, Props, Locations

The main location of our film is in this main road opposite the station, it is quite a busy area but a good location to start are film in.

These are some pictures of ideas of costume that we will use. They are just normal, everyday clothes therefore 1, will be easy to accesses and 2, dont give anything much away.

Casting

When deciding on the cast of our film we took into consideration the typeof characters but also we thought about how accessible different people would be when filming was needed to be done.

The first character we decided on was the main character, Mark Wilson. He needs to be someone who looks quite tough and strong. Also he needs to be fearless and knowledgeable.
We have chosen to cast George Blewitt (a member of our group) as Mark as he is well built and suits this role quite well. Another reason for this decision is , as he is in our group he will be easier to get hold of when we need him for filming. Also, he can put his own twist on his character and put ideas to us as a team. He will also be dedicated to the group and we know we can rely on him.

We then cast Megan Thornton, the daughter. She is 17 years old, average teenager therefore she was easy to cast. Also, you only see megans hair in the opening so we didnt have to put much thought into the casting.
Taking all this into consideration we cast Rosie Winton (another member of the group) as Megan Thornton.

Casting the mother/wife, Wendy Thornton, was again very easy to cast as she is not in the opening sequence. Therfore, we cast Emma Chapman (a member of our group) as Wendy Thornton.

The last character we cast was Robert Thornton...

Initial Ideas

Synopsis of our Thriller

Beginning
A teenage girl of the age of about 16 was going to a party. She was dressed up in high heels, a dark short dress and a hand bag. Her paranoid dad (Colin) had warned her not to take the short cut to the party through the park, he said dangerous people hang around there. The girl ignores her dad and decides to meet her friend in the park, through Facebook chat, before heading to the party. As she heads to the park she notices shadows and other weird things. As she stands waiting for her friend, she gets out her phone and starts to text. Meanwhile a mysterious man in a suit starts to walk towards the girl. As the girl texts her friend 'where are you?' she replies 'what do you mean?' before she looks up and is suddenly kidnapped.

Middle
The dad an ex-marine was actually part of a criminal dealing that went extremely wrong and was threatened by the criminals the life of his daughter. When the police go to explain that his daughter has been kidnapped and ask for any reason he may know of why, he doesn't reply. But inside his head he knows why and he knows that if he tells the police, the lives of the rest of his family will be in jeopardy. So he sets off to deal with criminals to get his daughter back.

End
The man has to deal with criminals from all over England and eventually is led to Manchester where his daughter is being held and after dealing with the criminals regains his daughter.

Location Ideas

My first location is an empty school at night. I think this would make a good thriller setting as it is dark and dull and a common, everyday place. I think it would have a good effect on the audience as it is somewhere a lot of them go everyday.

The next few pictures are of the same place, just different views of it. It is the room under my outside patio. It has only recently been built and has (obviously) not been decorated yet. i think this would be a good location as it is at a house, therefore already people can relate it to their own lives and when it is dark it is a very dull, scary place. It would also be an easy place for our group to film.
