The first 2 minutes of the Opening sequence is all titles like this one above. The white, old fashioned writing on the black background makes it seem scary and mysterious but also leaves a lot of room for questions to be asked.
This light bulb then fades onto the screen. At first you can’t really make out what it is, which again makes the audience ask lots of questions, but we soon work it out as the bulb gets brighter.
It then flicks to this shot, we are looking thorough the shelves into the celler/basement. It is very dark and dingy which could make the audience feel a bit scared or worried. It is clearly not a very lively place.
We then have this shot of a woman who has come down the stairs into this dark basement. She looks very out of place because of what she is wearing; her dress is bright and she has heals on. The positioning of this shot makes the audience almost feel like they are hiding behind the shelf watching her.
The camera then tracks toward the woman’s face, she has a sort of worried and confused look on her face. It makes the audience ask themselves whats coming. She then turns round as if she has heard something.
The camera then moves to a mid long shot of the woman. It is a nice frame as she is standing at the side of the shot (rather than in the middle) and you can see her shadow on the wall next to her and also the shadows of pillars down the shot.
The camera then moves to this long shot of the woman still hugging the bottle but she has turned slightly so that we can now see the shelves behind her. We get the feeling again that we are almost watching her as there is a pillar slightly in front of her and us. In the clip the woman starts to shiver as if she has suddenly gone really cold. This make s the audience ask questions as to why this has happened and what will happen next.
She then looks round a bit then starts to run towards the stairs and up them with a close up of her feet. This again makes the audience ask questions like why is she running, what is she scared of? And so on.
